Kaiser's Sacramento Medical Center on Morse Avenue is the system's main hospital for the Arden-Arcade area and much of the central county. It has a 24-hour emergency department, a busy maternity unit, and inpatient medical, surgical, and intensive-care units. Most patients here are Kaiser members, but the legal documents that come up during a stay are the same as at any hospital: a durable power of attorney that needs signing before a procedure, or an advance healthcare directive a family wants in place while their loved one can still speak for themselves.
You don't have to be a Kaiser member, and you don't need a referral or sign-off from the hospital, to bring in an outside notary. We're independent. Parking and visitor policies here change from time to time (the emergency department has been through recent remodeling), so if you want to confirm current visiting hours, a quick call to the unit is the safest move. Nothing about our visit needs to be set up through Kaiser first; just tell us where the patient is and we'll take it from there.

What the Patient Will Need
The person signing needs a government-issued photo ID that is current, or was issued within the past five years: a California driver's license or ID card, a U.S. or foreign passport, or a military ID. If their ID was lost, stolen, or never issued, California law lets us confirm identity through credible witnesses who personally know the patient and bring their own valid ID. If the ID is at home, that route is closed — have someone bring it in.
The patient also has to be awake, aware of what the document says, and able to tell us themselves that they want to sign it. We can't notarize for someone who is sedated or unresponsive.
